Why do my curls seem frizzy no matter what I do?

Do you try every product under the sun? Do you clarify your hair often? Does your shower have any filtration system? Is your water hard or heavily chlorinated? When styling, do you tend to touch your hair often, as its drying? Boy we can really get into the nitty gritty of products, but less than the actual brands you’re using, its most likely one of these or fifty other possibilities.

If I had to guess, here are some super common styling mistakes we make (keep in mind I am the guiltiest of all when it comes to needing sleep and rushing through my routine")

Is my hair saturated fully when adding products

If yes: maybe you need less products or smaller sections.

if no: maybe you don’t need as much product but rather more water. If your hair dries quickly you may need a water bottle close by, hydration comes from water. If it looks frizzy wet, it will look frizzy dry. Keep adding water as you work through the sections-yes that’s right, take a little extra time and section before you start applying product, its will make your life easier and you will get fully defined curls from root to end.

Most of us will get out of the shower, loathe the feeling of wet hair on our shoulders ,reach for a clip or twist it up in a towel. We may continue to do our makeup, get dressed, brush teeth etc. BUt before any of that, tell yourself your hair routine is priority number one. Think immediately after cleansing and conditioning, you go straight into styling.

No towel blotting/scrunching, plopping, clipping etc. Just add your product right then and there and once you’re finished air dry or diffuse dry. Lastly, DONT TOUCH IT WHILE IT DRIES. I find this to be a difficult rule to live by, but it really makes all the difference in more defined curls that last. Try it, and see if that changes anything.
